...Dorothea Lange's exhibition at the MOA looks fabulous

American photographer Dorothea Lange published a series of photographs in a 1954 issue of LIFE magazine entitled "Three Mormon Towns." The photographs include Toquerville, Gunlock, and St. George. Ansel Adams accompanied her on the trip and also took many photographs of the area. I like Ansel Adam's work, but I especially love Dorothea Lange's because she focused on people. I think her choice of subjects really tells the stories of life in those small Mormon towns. The exhibition runs through April 30.

Do you recognize this photograph called Migrant Mother? It is considered to be one of Dorothea Lange's most famous photographs. This picture was taken in 1936 during the Great Depression. The woman pictured here, Florence Thompson Owen, was thirty-two years old and had seven children. Dorothea Lange took the picture after Florence sold her tent to buy food for her family.
